How to clean your wax burner
Here at KindnessMelts we want to ensure that no risks are involved, and that all safety information is easy to access. We thought this would be the perfect opportunity to teach you how to remove the wax from your burner not only safely but efficiently. Always ensure to wash hands before and after removing wax to protect yourself and to keep contamination to a minimum. There are many ways to clean your wax burner and I will talk you through them today.
The methods I am going to cover are:
- Freezer cleaning
- Cleaning using heat
- Scraping cleaning
- Pouring cleaning
Freezer cleaning
I find this method the most effective and the least work. Although there is come warnings you need to be aware of if you are going to freeze your melt. Please be aware of any open food that could be contaminated by excess fumes from the wax melts. My suggestion for this is to check all food and put the wax melter in an empty draw if possible or place inside a bag/box you can seal. Also remove tea lights from the burner before placing in freezer.
To do this method simply place in the freezer for 10 mins once the wax has cooled and no longer moves. After 10 minutes it should slide right off, if not place back in freezer for additional 5 minutes. Once wax disc is removed give a small wipe with soap and water. Your burner is now ready for the next melt.
Cleaning using heat
For this method, the safety aspects you must be aware of is that the wax will still be hot,and the burner could be hot too so handle with care. Hot wax can cause burns and chemical damage due to added in oils.
To do this method once wax is in the liquid form extinguish the tea lights and have your tissue/cotton balls/kitchen towel ready. Place the tissue/cotton balls/kitchen towel onto the wax and let it soak up. Once soaked up give a final wipe with a clean piece of tissue/cotton balls/kitchen towel.
When disposing of the wax covered tissue/cotton balls/kitchen towel be sure to avoid getting it on your skin as it could still burn you. Throw away into normal household rubbish as soy wax is bio-degradable and eco-friendly. An alternative way to dispose is to use the wax covered tissue/cotton balls/kitchen towel as a fire starter. It will burn away easily and be the best smelling fire lighter you have used. I would not recommend using the scented wax covered tissue/cotton balls/kitchen towel if its for a barbeque as it could taint the food.
Scraping cleaning
I found this method to be the most time consuming and can take a while to get the burner fully clean. I was not 100% satisfied with the outcome, however some people may prefer this way. As always be cautious as the wax burner may be hot and extinguish the tea lights to prevent risk of burning. I also do not like this method as if you scrape to hard you may damage your wax burner.
To do this method you will need a spoon/knife. Begin by scraping the wax once cooled and in solid form. Keep scraping until all is gone and give a wipe with soap and water to complete the clean. Dispose of any cloths containing the wax into normal household rubbish as soy wax is bio-degradable and eco-friendly. Alternative you can use as a fire starter but be aware if scented wax does not use around food products.
Pouring cleaning
There are a few precautions to consider when using this method as its done when the wax and wax burner are still hot. When moving liquid wax be aware of the risk of burning. Ensure you have all the equipment you need before doing this method of cleaning i.e.: Cloths, soap and water and gloves.
To do this method extinguish tea lights and remove them from the burner. I would also suggest having the surface underneath where you are going to pour covered as to protect the surface. Once all tea lights are removed and surface is covered, place the cloth into hand or side and tip the hot liquid wax onto the cloth ensuring you do not spill on your skin. Once all poured out the burner one last wipe to remove any residual wax and wash in soap and water.
Dispose of any cloths containing the wax into normal household rubbish as soy wax is bio-degradable and eco-friendly. Alternative you can use as a fire starter but be aware if scented wax do not use around food products.
Again, I am not a fan of this method as it can be messy and can cause injuries if not precautious.
