CLP stands for  Classification, Labelling and Packaging and it is a legal requirement for selling of any goods involving essential oils. its purpose is to ensure a high level of protection of health and the environment, as well as the free movement of substances, mixtures, and articles.

The main purpose of CLPs as a is customer/consumer to be informed of any allergens, hazards, and safety warnings regarding the product. They also serve the purpose of in the event of needing medical attention you are to take the information with you to ensure more accurate care.

The main purpose for a vendor/business is to give correct information regarding safety, hazards, and allergens. By ensuring your CLPs are accurate it takes away any liability from you as a business. Most businesses will state that they are CLP compliant to help the consumers know they are getting a safe and secure product.

So, what makes up a CLP, here is an example of one and what needs to be included.

1: Name of scent – This is essential as it is not only telling the consumer what they have ordered but also helps you identify your product.

2: Hazard symbol –So there are a few different symbols, and I will go over them in another post and explain what the different ones mean and where you are likely to see them.Having the symbols on the labels explains in pictogram form that this one for example is health hazard/hazardous to the ozone layer.

3: Directions symbols – These symbols are to give warnings and advice on how to use the product.Below I will state what they mean.

Do not leave a naked flame unattended.

Do not leave the product lit around children or pets and to keep out of reach of children and pets.

Keep flames 10 centimetres apart.

Keep flames away from windows and soft furnishings.

Trim wicks to 8 millimetres before every use. This helps with burn rate and stops the candle being as smoky.
